Keller ISD awarded national ranking

Keller ISD has two high schools ranked

The U.S. News & World Report has named Keller High School and Fossil Ridge High School to the 2015 Best High Schools list. The United States top 2,527 public schools are honored for their college readiness. The two Keller ISD schools ranked in the top 200 in the state of Texas. Keller High School ranked 903 in the nation while Fossil Ridge High School ranked 1,913. The rankings were based on data from RTI International – a non profit research firm. This is another badge of honor for Keller ISD which has already been regarded as one of the best school districts in the region.

Schools that qualified for this list had students perform exceptionally well on state math and reading assessments. They also rated higher than state averages in performance of minority and financially disadvantaged students. Once the qualifiers were met, the final rankings were determined by the number of seniors excelling in AP courses. Both Keller High School and Fossil Ridge High School met these criteria as top schools.

Keller ISD’s AVID (Advancement Via Indicitual Determination) program is critical to the college readiness of its students. The program prepares students for college by providing them with a support system while training them on effective study techniques. AVID is designed to target an average student. AVID can take students with great potential and show them how to excel in AP courses and eventually in a college classroom. Several AVID students become the first college graduate in their family.
